Andrea Lewicki is an award-winning abstract artist. Originally from northeastern Arizona, she grew up in the remnants of a retirement community that was all plans and no fruition, surrounded by miles of dusty desert horizon. She was insulated from the traditional art world for most of her life and is largely self-taught. Although she was nearly 30 years old when she met an artist for the first time, her life was full of people who made their livings with their hands. This carries through to her studio practice which involves more hardware store tools and physical craft than artist brushes and canvas Her creative process is fueled by persistent curiosity, and she uses art to explore her relationship to structure.
Outside of the studio, Lewicki entertains a minimum of three alternate fantasies at a time. Three recent fantasies are 1) opening a European-style cheese shop as an excuse to buy large wheels of Parmesan, 2) constructing silly crossword puzzles for the New York Times, and 3) running a secret supper club out of her kitchen.
Lewicki currently lives in Western Washington’s Snoqualmie Valley.
