Ms. Pilar is a licensed Latina clinical social worker, serving primarily minority families in a Latino and African-American neighborhood. As a bilingual social worker, she has been privileged to support African-American essential workers and help her community with the devastating effects of 9/11, Hurricane Sandy, and the COVID-19 pandemic. She is of Salvadoran and Colombian descent, born here in the United States. Ms. Pilar has degrees from Binghamton University, the Harvard University School of Education, and the Columbia University School of Social Work.
Nature and the ocean inspire her to weave words into medicine for their therapeutic value in treating patients. She has worked as a mental health professional for 27 years and has a private practice where she supports patients through her experience as a survivor of trauma. She processes her life journey through her writing.
