Joe Matty

Joe Matty is a photographer from Pittsburgh, PA who is focused on the exploration, practice, and application of historical photographic processes. Currently studying photography at Rochester Institute of Technology, his work has been included in several publications and exhibitions. Influenced by his connection with family and its history, as well as an interest in non-contemporary photographic movements, Joe explores this history through the still image. From a young age Joe was exposed to photographs and writings from his ancestral past. Feeling tied to the record that the photographs in particular created, he was drawn to the use of historical photographic processes as a method to create a vision of the past in a contemporary environment, through which he is able to explore both his family and how the world around him was shaped.
